Twitter Wine Reviews - May 2010

The Twitter Wine Review Social Experiment. I never understood wine reviews, the classy ones. Sure - 3 stars, 4 stars, but when they got to acidic bouquets and well textured noses. They lost me. Here's a social trend: man-in-the-street wine reviews, from someone who knows what he likes, probably knows what others would like, but refuses to hoighty toighty it up.

Enjoy!

My Twitter Wine Review List for May 2010:

2006 Du Toitskloof Cellar Shiraz. Not my favourite. Like the Lions. 3/10.

2007 Glenwood Merlot. Undertones of Sugus Rasberry. Would go GREAT with Chuckleberrys. 6/10.

2008 Nederburg The Winemasters Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. Light, sneaky lunch wine. Needs lotsa oxygen. 6/10.

2005 Meerlust Rubicon. Prob a bit young. But hauled out in celebration of future son. That rhymes. Still a great wine. 7/10.

Tucking into a 1999 LBV Port. It's porty.

2009 Zonnebloem Sauvignon Blanc. Like a fruit salad. With grass & apricots. Yum. Helps me forget the crappy sports results. 7/10.

2005 Raka Quinary. Earthy. Berry. There's a party on my tongue. 8/10.

2007 Alto Rouge. The log fire helps. Am I smokey or is the wine? Regardless, this is tasty! 7/10.

2008 Laborie Shiraz. Proves wine doesn't have to be old to be a rollicking good quaff. Minty sniff. Fruity taste. 7/10.

2004 Audacia Merlot. Blherm. Initial smell of a latrine but grew on me a bit. Pity, the Cab Sav was rad. 3/10.

2008 Nederburg The Winemasters Reserve Pinotage. Middle road on everything: sniff, taste, swirly stuff. Works for an ave eve tho. 6/10.

2009 Thierry & Guy Fat Bastard Sauvignon Blanc. Wine snobs would say zesty. I say jolly fuckin' good. And fruity. 8/10.

2006 Post House Cabernet Sauvignon. Sleeper hit! Makes my tongue bend inwards - but in a good, buttery, nutty way. 8/10.

2008 Guardian Peak Merlot. I can't say much. Except this is apparently a gold mine brand - from Ernie Els estate. FYI. 6/10.

2009 Simonsvlei Longmarket Merlot. A Woolworths Wine Collection. Personally, I prefer their steamed meals. 2/10.

2005 Rosendal Private Cellar Cabernet Sauvignon. No specifics. Just full of good red wine stuff. Must try again. 7/10.

2008 Rupert & Rothschild Classique Blend. Not much on the sniff, but it tastes like a creamy melted Oreo. In a good way. 8/10.
