Simplicity and Million Dollar Ideas...

We've been chatting a lot recently about innovation, especially after Jon's post. What do you have to do in a digital world of a couple of billion websites, 50 million blogs, a bunch of really useless content and a microscopic world where just about everything has been done?

I guess the answer lies, once again, in simplicity. Simplicity of everything: ideas, site design, strategy, technology, usability. As the world and the Internet gets bigger, it's up to marketers and technologists to simplify and filter the torrent of stuff that's out there.

YES... yes... yes. It's old. So old. But dammit... Talking about simple, brilliant ideas. This one still takes the cake. A Million Dollar Home Page. It's so simple, it makes me want to cry. $1 per pixel. 1 000 000 pixels. Sold out. Own your piece of that wallet!

I wonder if he'll license?

  1. Love this blog, Andy. Guess we've all moved on from our gAL days...!

Not totally related, but I'm working for a youth development organization (section 21, non-profit etc) and am looking into fundraising through blogging. It seems there's some very succesful $1 a day fundraising campaigns through blogs but how on earth do you get that right amidst all the noise in the blogosphere??

(The organization is called 121; it's main product is a really innovative program to address discipline issues in schools in Pretoria).

  2. Hey Cori - thanks! And hope you've subscribed and are coming back for more :)

Interesting concept - R1/day blog fundraising. Payment gateway on that one ought to be a tickle?

We've been doing a lot of work here on how to cut through the clutter - and I think it goes beyond basic SEO. My gut feel at the moment is it's just really hard work spreading the word. Posting intelligent comments, linked back to your fundraiser blog on as many relevant sites as you can. Takes time. Blogs, after all, are a word of mouth medium.

Other ideas, I suppose are getting affiliates involved to send users from high traffic sites - a News24 banner campaign would go down a treat :)

We've also been experimenting with how to get yourself completely cross-indexed in the world of the search engine. So, link your MySpace profile to your Windows LiveSpaces profile to your site to your blog to your Technorati profile. Not quite sure what's going to happen - but you're bound to pop up higher in search results.

Keep me posted on how this goes - we'd love to blog about it.
